2. Attend classroom and subsequent field training to prepare you for the BPI Building Analyst certification exams. The MD HPwES program is not currently offering classes, but Maryland community colleges are teaching two classes: Home Energy Analysis and Weatherization Tactics. The courses are designed to prepare students to take the BPI Building Analyst exams. The current course schedule and a description of the courses currently being offered can be dowloaded by clicking here: course descriptions or course schedule.
4. Take and pass the BPI Building Analyst written and field examinations.
5. Submit a copy of BPI certification, completed contractor participation agreement with supporting documentation and proof of access to the required diagnostic equipment as discussed in the Maryland Home Performance with ENERGY STAR informational program packet.
6. Participate in 1 mentoring sessions after earning the BPI Building Analyst certification. In the event that the contractor needs additional mentoring, there will be a per-session charge.
7. Participate in a welcome to the program kick-off meeting, where you will officially become a participating contractor with Maryland Home Performance with ENERGY STAR.
8. Start reporting jobs to the program. You must report your first job within 3 months of the kick-off meeting, and will need to report a minimum of 1 job per month (or 10 annually), to stay active in the program.
9. Ongoing education will be required in the future to become, or remain, qualified as a contractor with the Maryland Home Performance with ENERGY STAR program. If you are currently a qualified contractor, your status has not changed; however, you will need to complete further training in the future. Resources for receiving training will be listed on this website as soon as they are made available.
The Weatherization Tactics course will be a future continuing education requirement and the community colleges are currently offering this course. If you would like to go ahead and take the full Weatherization Tactics course, you can call the Weatherization Contact Center at 443-840-5059.
Participating contractors with MD HPwES -- please note: MEA is working with the community colleges to provide an option to take a test to satisfy this Weatherization Tactics requirement. Additionally, an abbreviated Tactics course (1- or 2-day) may be provided as a refresher before the exam.
