Standard Energy Solutions (SES) is a Maryland-based professional energy auditing firm and performance retrofitting contractor that serves the DC metropolitan area and a growing number of states throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. They focus on insulation, not duct work or windows. They go for the most cost effective and I feel they recommended the most necessary improvements. I was less happy with what happened the day work began, although they "fixed" the problem. There had been a lack of communication between the auditor and the contractor doing the work and one of the areas I had requested to be insulated was left off the list. I didn't catch this either to be fair (although there was a picture of the area in my report, just no request to insulate it was sent to the contractor). The SES rep showed up and made arrangements for that area to be insulated that day without an increase of cost. I give them Kudos for that. However, they did this by using less expensive insulation materials in other places. My suggestion is that you very carefully look over the proposal and clarify everything. There was a major accident with a fire sprinkler system line that was broken in the attic but the company took care of the problem in every aspect. Not a fun process to say the least but they fixed everything that was damaged and completed the work that was contracted. |

I was impressed with the energy audit, and decided to use the company. They were not very prompt about getting back to me with the proposal or billing issues. The work itself was largely fine. Indeed, the temperature in the house has been much more consistant and the energy bills have dropped about 20-30 percent compared to the same months last year. The only problem was that somehow some cellulose insolation got into the supply ductwork and some blew out the supply registers. They were prompt about having the subcontractor come back to vacuum it out (no issue since), but they didn't have a good answer for me about how it could have gotten in in the first place. |
